What is Dividend Yield?

Definition of Dividend Yield

The companys annual dividend payments expressed in percentage. It is calculated by dividing the annual dividend per share by the price of a share. Usually growing companies do not have dividend yields, as they do not pay dividends but reinvest companys earnings back into the business. Whereas, mature companies with steady growth in stock prices usually have higher dividend yields.
